Currently Listening
Songs for Christmas
By Sufjan Stevens
see related

I should mention that my "currently listening to" is more of  i wish i were currently listening to. I tried to find this album at a bunch of stores and couldn't i guess i'll just have to order it some day. I am working at my mom's spa again for the holidays...selling gift certificates, and i hate it. It is so boring and useless. And besides selling the gift certificates which a monkey could do...for christmas they have us in a tent in the parking lot. That is where i am now. In a white tent in the parking lot. I am glad that i'll be getting paid, but this line of work is not for me. At all. There is no job satisfaction. At least when i worked on designing the spa's website i had a good time and i felt like i was doing something. Oh well...2 hours and 45 more minutes...then all of next week...yeah!

Is it just me or does christmas not seem exciting any more? I love the season and getting the house looking like christmas, but i find that the actual day has lost a lot of its excitement. There aren't loads of presents under the tree anymore or unexpected surprises...it just seems to have lost the magic. Hopefully it will get better.

Supply And Demand

I just noticed that NBC is not airing Studio 60 next week so they can test out Friday Night Lights in 60's spot. I have that feeling in my stomach like when you missed a class you weren't supposed to miss or when you almost get into a car accident. It's like a hollow sad nervous mix. I' have been saying since the first episode that Studio 60 is my favorite show on TV...I've been telling everyone to watch, and 'I've seen all the episodes several times each. I feel so powerless to stop this from happening. I'm so pissed. I think I might give up on NBC if they pull the show. What a worthless network. They should have to merge with fox or something the way UPN and WB merged. Losers

To Be Told : Know Your Story, Shape Your Future
By Dan B. Allender

There is something important about knowing your history…about knowing where you come from and who you come from.  My mom found the book above at my Grandparents house and brought it home to me.  I have boxes full of old books or books that look old. I usually keep them on a shelf or table simply as an aesthetic element, but my Sunday school class is reading a book called To Be Told (by Dan Allender) about getting to know your story and how it helps you more fully understand the role that God has for you to play.  I opened the book my mom brought me and found this:

“From the library of Rev. Johnny Mims” how amazing is that. There have been so many might men and women of God in my history. Grandpa Mims (really great-grandpa to me) was a Southern Baptist minister, and grandpa Labauve was a Christian as well. My grandma “Mimi” never met a stranger and shared the gospel with everyone she met until she got Alzheimer’s. My Aunt Donna on my Dad’s side was the one who led my Dad to Christ, and my parents were in full time ministry for twelve years.

When I actually started reading the book my mom brought me, I found an 8-page intro about how the Bible is for everyone and everyone can find themselves in it, and how it contains the richest characters, and how we all still need it. I really liked this: “We have not outgrown the Bible, and we make a tragic mistake if we assume that we need no personal contact with its energizing contents.” The book was designed to get people to read their Bibles again. It contains passages chosen by a survey of ministers of the day said were the most important, stirring, or relevant; in the hope that after reading this book people might want to dive deeper into the Bible. In case you were wondering it was published in 1947…
